You can email your answer to me at zach@stpeters-epil.com or you can write them down and bring them to class. There will be five verses below. Tell me whether the verses match with the lessons we have had on the 1st article. The verses will match with:

10/28 Question of the Week!

I have fixed our little posting issue. Everyone should be able to post a response to the following question. (If you still cannot post a comment email me at zach@stpeters-epil.com, and let me know if there is a problem. Please include your answer to the question as well.)

When God finished creation on the sixth day, he said: "It is very good." Give me 3 ways that creation is still "very good". (Example: Creation is still good, because the earth continues to rotate.) Read Revelations 21:1-8. How will the world better when Christ returns? (Give me a minnimum of 4 ways.)

Post your comments below. I might respond to your posts throughout the week!

Homework for 10/27

Question of the Week! Every now and then I will post a question on the blog that will serve as the homework for the 7th grade class. You can post your answer on the blog by posting a comment or you can write it down and bring it to class.

Here it is:

Luther's explanation to the first article of the creed lists every way that God provides for his people. Since God graciously provides for us "out of pure, fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me". What do you think Luther means when he says that God the Father gives us all that we we need without any merit or worthiness in us? Do you think God gives us food, clothing, and shelter because he is all powerful or because he is merciful?

Homework for 10/20

Here is the homework for the coming week of Weekday School:

Read the explanation of the First Articla of the creed, and tell me why you think the words in bold are so important:

I believe that God has made me and all creatures; that He has given me my body and soul, eyes and ears, and all my limbs, my reason, and all my senses, and still preserves them; in addition thereto, clothing and shoes, meat and drink, house and homestead, wife and children, fields, cattle, and all my goods; that he provides me richly and daily with all that I need to support this body and life, protects me from all danger, and guards me and preserves me from all evil; and all this out of pure, fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me; for all which I owe it to Him to thank, praise, serve, and obey Him. This is most certainly true.

Session 3

In class we are already about a full week behind!

For this week keep working on the 10 commandments. Memorize commandments 4-6 and read through the meanings. Be ready to state what the commandments mean to you in your own words. Follow up with Pastor Zach or Pastor Mews if you have any questions.

We will catch up in class this week, and we will have a full lesson online next week.

Lesson II Review of 10 Commandments

Hello!

We are in our second session of weekday school! My seventh grade class is continuing to review the 10 commandments, and if we have time, we will introduce the creed.

***If you are following these lessons online, because you are not attending class you must read the post on expectations below and schedule a time to meet with Pastor Mews or Pastor Zach.

Lesson 2: Here we go!

1) God gives the Ten Commandments to Israel in Exodus 20. Be able to find this in your bible when you meet with one of the pastors.

2) Pay attention to the where God appears on the mountain. (Exodus 19:16-25)
What was the name of the mountain where God gave the 10 Commandments?
Describe the scene to me around the mountain from Exodus 19:16-25.
What did it look like? What sounds were heard? What did Moses forbid the Israelites from doing?

3) Recite Commandments 1-3 from memory.

-------------------------
Intro to the Creed

1) There are three creeds: 1) The Apostle's Creed 2) Nicene Creed 3) Athanasian Creed

You can find these creeds in a hymnal or you can "google" them. If you would like a copy of these creeds speak with one of the pastors.

Look over the three creeds, be ready to share some ways that they are different.

2) The Apostle's Creed begins with these two words: "I believe". What does it mean to you when you say you believe in something?

3) How does it affect your life when you really believe in something?

Lesson I Review of the 10 Commandments

Wednesday Night Class discussed: Acolyte Training, in-class expectations and rules, played an icebreaker, and we reviewed the 10 Commandments.

1) Read pg. 54-55 in your Small Catechism.

What are the three types of law given in the Old Testament? Which one is written on our hearts?

What are the two tables of the 10 Commandments?

What two statements summarized the 10 Commandments?

2) Discuss with your parents why we still need the 10 commandments. Share your answer with Pastor Zach or Pastor Mews when you are scheduled to meet.

3) Memorize the first three commandments and recite them when you meet with one of the pastors.

Please Post any questions or Comments you may have. Please remember that you must speak with Pastor Mews or Pastor Zach to schedule a time to discuss this session.

God's Blessings!

Expectations

Before you begin any of our online sessions speak with Pastor Mews or Pastor Zach. We will discuss our expectations of your involvement in weekday school. You will also be given information regarding fees, class schedule, the Weekday School Handbook, projects, service hours, and worship/ Sunday school attendance. All of this information is necessary for you to complete St. Peter's confirmation requirements.

This blog is only meant for those who are in grades 6-8 who have a conflict that forces them to miss Wednesday night classes AND for those who are in High School who have not yet completed confirmation. If you are able to attend Weekday School this online curriculum is not for you.

If you are using this blog you must meet with Pastor Mews or Pastor Zach on a regular basis. This will be your chance to ask any questions, and to demonstrate that you are learning the material. This is also a chance for Pastor Mews and Pastor Zach to help you in your journey to be confirmed and, more importantly, to grow closer to your Savior Jesus Christ. If you do not understand the material, or if you are not completing the work properly we will ask you to repeat a session.

You are responsible for completing all projects, service hours, worship/ Sunday school attendance requirements, scheduling times with to meet with a pastor, and attending Wednesday night classes whenever you can make it. This is not an easier path than Weekday school on Wednesday nights. However, Pastor Mews or Pastor Zach will help you in any way we can. If you are able to attend weekday school at any point throughout the year you are expected to do so.

Feel free to comment on this blog, email (zach@stpeters-epil.com), or call (309-699-5411). Our goal is to confirm as many as possible; however, it is more important that the basics of the Christian faith are learned by all. If you meet the above requirements we welcome you to start with the first lesson on the 10 Commandments.

God's Blessings!

Pastor Zach
